Alex Bassos is the Training Director at the Metropolitan Public Defender, a non-profit public defender’s office covering both Multnomah and Washington County, Oregon. MPD handles all levels of criminal cases from misdemeanors to capital defense and all types of juvenile cases from delinquencies to terminations of parental rights. Alex has been with MPD since 1998. Prior to that he worked for SuperLawyer Frank Reynolds in Michigan for 3 years. He is a graduate of James Madison at MSU and Indiana University Law School. Alex is the president of the boards of Upstream Public Health and Hosford-Abernethy Neighborhood. He sits on the following boards and committees: Disability Rights Oregon, OCDLA legislative and education committees, OSB State Lawyer’s Assistance Committee, Department of Health Institutional Review Board, OHSU Institutional Review Board, Oregon Community Corrections Commission, Oregon State Hospital Stakeholders’ Committee, Southeast Uplift, and the Portland Police Crisis Intervention Training Advisory Committee. He also participates in the Oregon State Bar mentor program. He is the author of the the OCDLA Mental Health and Criminal Defense Manual, the OCDLA expungement guide and a now out of print bench book for civil commitments.
